Leviathan Journal

My time as Chief of Production at the Leviathan Journal was transformative for both myself and the journal. Going in, my primary goal was to rebrand the visual identity of the journal. I wanted to give the journal a look that was appealing, modern, professional, and easy to recreate.

COLOR IDENTITY

Each issue is broken down into different geographic regions. Previous iterations of the journal made no distinction between the regions, which made navigation confusing. I wanted the use of color to be purposeful, therefore I gave each region a distinct color identity.

CLEAN LAYOUTS

Instead of overwhelming the pages with different colors and overly complicated layouts, I scaled down. I stuck to clean lines and simple photo spreads, giving the content space to speak for itself.

  • visuals are too saturated and busy

  • semi-transparent background on text is difficult to read

  • too visually bold for an academic journal

  • hard to tell issue number, region title, etc.
